Project Description

Hi Marek,

I came across your debian project for the kobo touch and I'd be really interested in sponsoring a modified version (to be then open sourced). I've played with the android version as well but it was too easy to crash it.

Essentially I'm interested in the possibilities of the device as a low glare, high contrast simple web display. At the moment i'm hacking more for my own purposes at home rather than anything commercial but i've got some ideas.

I'd like to use it as a home automation controller with a raspberry pi and or maybe a squeezebox player :)

I posted a few questions on the mobile read forums but am eager to proceed frustrated that I've got to the limit of my ability.

Essentially what i'd like to achieve is as follows

1. Be able to configure the wireless when accessing a secure wireless network, I can't currently see how
2. Be able to set a config file with a given url
3. Be able to set a config file with wireless access credentials
3. Device boots (portrait mode)
4. Connects to Wifi
5. Launches a full screen browser (firefox is fine) and connects to the given url
6. The wifi would not powersave and neither would the screen.

A nice to have would be the ability via config to flip the screen portait mode so that its viewed in portait bu the the USB is out the top

Another nice to have would be to be able to configure to disable the home button

A very tiny nice to have would be to be able to disable the power control on the top but I could achieve both of the above via how the device was mounted so its not a must have.

Budget wise I have absolutely no idea what your hourly rate is, whether this is easy/hard. But a [url removed, login to view] eink web display configured simply by editing a text file and plonking it in the device to me is pretty awesome as a compliment to pi many uses

please let me know if you are interested ?
