Overview:
This desktop application will merge the field contents from an .XLS file (Datasource), which has multiple rows of (Merge Data) into a PowerPoint file (Template).
The .XLS Datasource will have n rows of Data, plus a header row. Executing the Merge Application will generate a NEW temporary PPT file, which will have 1 page consisting of the (Template) + (Merge data) x n pages of PPT slides.
After the merge, the new PPT file will be launched, allowing the user to change and/or save to their own location.
Application Visual
General
i) All fields within the PPT template will be encapsulated as <<sample_field>>
ii) All data fields from the .XLS file will be in the header row. Note some of the field names contain spaces.
iii) Each row of data will commence with a field called “Creative ID” and will contain a numeric value. If this field is empty, the merge can be considered complete.
iv) .XLS file is not a standard MS format, so will require special code.
v) When performing Merge, empty fields shall be allowed.
vi) The application will run standalone (IE .NET extensions should not need to be installed)
Supplemental requirements
i) Pressing the [TEST] button, will test that the data fields embedded in the PPT file exist in the EXCEL file, then subsequently launch a pop-up screen listing
all <Found Merge Fields> in GREEN that were present in the PPT and in the EXCEL file
all <Not Found Merge Fields> in RED that were in the PPT but did not exist in the Excel file. The user will need to be able to close this button, and re-test after they have corrected the merge error.
ii) Pressing the [MERGE] button will create a new PPT file, with 1 slide/page per data row from the Excel file.
iii) The Browse for PPT will also default to the last used PPT file and store / create an INI file with the filename & path.
