We already have a shell extension for the drive and so it interacts with windows. What we would like to do is trap all the file i/o operations and have them be called back to another program.
This will involve 2 parts.
1) The i/o filter (which I think would need to be a driver)
2) The client library that we would include in our program.
Basically the client library will get notified about all operations that should be happening and the i/o filter will wait until the client library finishes each operation and returns the result to the driver. The client library should call an initialization function to let the driver know what drive letter to work from. Then listing of files in directories should be supplied by the client library. For example if notepad tries to access our virtual drive M, then all opeartions should work off of M:\folder1\[login to view URL] . No interaction with the shell is needed. So a small test program should be included that will make file i/o calls to the virtual M:. We just need operations that are tried to be performed on files and folders in the M: to work properly so that other programs can use the M:.
