Campaign Tracker

This is for a database to run in Windows which will track marketing campaigns. This will be marketed and distributed to marketers and business owners on the internet. The campaigns are in the form of text and HTML documents. There is a web based component though which will be needed to track individual URLs for the users and store this information until the user does an update from the PC end. I'm figuring XML is the best way to do that. The XML part can be done last and I don't necessarily need the same programmer to do both, but it would be helpful. As far as the PC software (database), I need to base it on something that can be compiled or is free or economical to distribute. I want to see at what my options are with something that can handle up 1 million records reliably without getting bogged down, and also with something that can handle up to 5 million. Anything limited to 1 million would have to have the ability to summarize or archive old data since it's likely that some users will go as high as 5 million and possibly beyond, but I want to cut it off at 5 million. Archiving could be based on the same engines that generate reports. This would give the user flexibility over what to archive. The user needs to be able to open those archive files and possibly merge them back in later. However, if merging will add a lot of work to the project, I don’t think it’s worth it. The reason for so many records is that it records the number of clicks by day on each URL that sent traffic to the link that is being tracked. Over the course of a year, there could be hundreds of links being tracked, some of them for the whole year. And for every one of these links being tracked, there may be 1000 or more different referring sources. I have a design showing exactly what all of the parts of the interface will look like which I created in Microsoft Visio. I also have all the reports shown in Excel and a 6 page Word document that describes how everything functions. For an initial quote, it's overkill and would take too long to go through. If you read below, this covers the elements. I am attaching a flow chart though. The best way to explain my overall concept for the design is with the flow charts I’ve attached. These are meant for the user to understand the system, but are detailed enough to give you a good idea of what the database will look like. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform Windows 98, 2000, NT, ME, XP Web server side (just one installation) to be discussed
