Project Description

The Background: A client of mine will be away from his two children for up to a year on some overseas project. But he wants to be able to make sure he keeps in contact with them in a meaningful way, through a game that they play. Every day, the children are to read the newspaper until they find a word that they don’t know. Then they are supposed to look up that word in the dictionary and use it in a sentence by the time their father (my client) comes home for dinner. So he wants to continue this game even while he’s overseas, but he doesn’t necessarily want to be responsible for sending emails every day. The Application: So I said I’d build Dad a quick applications that would allow him to enter in one or more words for two his children (different words for both kids, because there are different ages and at different language levels), and an automatic email would be generated each day from a template that Dad could easily write and update. Dad doesn’t necessarily have to update the list each day; he could enter seven words each week, or he could enter up to 31 words at the beginning of the month. And if the word list has been exhausted, it ought to email the father letting him know the list is empty.

## Deliverables

Requirements: · Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. · The application must be written in PHP. For storing the words, it can use either flat files or MySQL database. · It must come with a web interface for updating the words and viewing the upcoming and used word list · It must be able to use an SMTP server for mail. · Each page must include a header and footer file. · It must be configurable by a [url removed, login to view] file (see below). · It must come with detailed installation instructions, or you must install it on a production server. Note that I’m used to installing open source web applications, so instructions can be on a “developer?? level (as long as they are clear). · All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). · I will password-proect the application using HHTP Basic authentication ... no need for you to worry about that · All emails that are generated must be able to pass through comon spam filters, especially those from AOL and Earthlink (I can test emails at both those services if you require them) · The process that sends the email will be started through via cron, which I have access to.
