I am looking for login code to be used by pre-authorized visitors to access a proprietary page on a web site. Here are the details. 1. The user will have previously emailed us, requesting permission to gain access to the page. 2. If approved, we will assign a login user name. It will be his email address. The maximum field length is 42 characters. 3. We will assign a password. The maximum field length is 10 characters (alpha and/or numeric). 4. This is where we would have to add this users name and password to a list of approved users. We also want to delete users from the list at will, if desired. 5. We will then email this login information back to the user. 6. On a web page, we will have a Form where the user enters his Username and Password, then clicks the Submit button. A domain and a page has been setup for testing. You will be given access to this test web site in order to setup and test the program. 7. This login information is processed by the program. There does not need to be any validity checking, only a compare to see if the user is authorized. If the login information is not correct, the program will link to an existing error page. If the login information is valid, the program will link to a special web page. We need to know how to hide this page on the web so that unauthorized users cannot access it without loging in. After the program has been completed and tested by the coder, instructions will be supplied to us on the procedure to install and maintain the program on the live site. I am currently using Net Object Fusion V7.5 to generate published pages on this site. Our web server is Linux, running Apache 1.3, with all the usual installed features. We had a user login setup like this several years ago done by a contractor when we were on a Windows web server. I believe it used ASP with an MDB file that stored the user information. We would maintain this by opening the MDB file in Excel, modifying it, then uploading it to the web site.
