Project Description

What we are looking for at this stage of the project are highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic individuals who are not looking to make a quick buck but who would rather want to become part of the creation of a MMO video game that will define the future of how video games will be developed and deployed.

With years of conceptual development and project planning, we are now setting up a team to start a Kickstarter-funded Video Game Development project, specifically a MMORPG. We are not talking about a small indie project or a Flash game, but one that is on the level of some of the major commercially successful MMORPGs such as Diablo, WoW - and even more so in the direction of EVE - yet on that stands out, setting itself apart with gameplay concept and technological innovations, generating a more enjoyable, complex yet not complicated experience.

We have developed various technologies that are in the Alpha stage and that need to be put together into a coherent Alpha game demo to make a compelling case for Kickstarter funding. At this stage we are not looking for perfection - demos in the Alpha stage after all do have bugs. But we want to be able to effectively demo the direction of what the game is going to offer the players.

We are looking for enthusiastic and skilled people, preferably with a professional background, or post-grad / PhD students with an academic background in anything video games related. Also, anyone participating needs to have "practical experience" with (AKA having played) RPGs and MMORPGs - ideally EVE.

This is the first in a series of projects, because to create a professional-grade MMORPG is a huge undertaking. So to make it a success, this first project will focus on creating the basics for the later versions to follow. This version will provide the technological and basic game mechanics foundation for the other versions, providing a fully playable game with a basic set of game elements, to get players started.

The overall projects consists of two parts - the development and the game itself.

The development itself consists of the team collaboration tool, to handle the more administrative aspects, such as progress tracking; and the code testing itself, which is divided into alpha (various code tests, parts of the game) and beta development (where the parts are "fused" together as one game). This development area already exists.

The game area consists of the non-development beta (limited beta test) and eventually the live game. The game itself will run solely in the web browser, utilizing the newest web technologies: HTML5 with WebSockets, WebGL and of course CSS and JavaScript (with jQuery for some parts) on the front-end, PHP on the server side. Therefore, the creation of the website is an integral part of the game itself.

We are currently looking for developers (with a focus on afore-mentioned traditional web technologies for the graphical parts such as CSS and Javascript, but also those with experience in more cutting-edge graphics technologies such as WebGL and HTML5 and non-graphical technologies such as asynchronous communication using WebSockets and COMET), graphic artists (both traditional hand-drawings and 3D CGI) and business oriented people, ideally someone with knowledge in the area of crowd funding and specifically Kickstarter.

Again, this is for a project with a future, so initially there will be little money to provide, until the Kickstarter funding becomes a success, at which point full-time employment and contracting will become a possibility.
