I do run a pretty popular website, which runs a wordpress installation. First this site was normally hostet at a web provider, however the server keeps crashing.
I then moved the site to a small single CPU root server, however under certain circumstances this server keeps crashing too. The server runs smoothly for hours, and suddenly it crashes. When this happens I can watch growing CPU Usage slowly to 100% (mainly IO, but user and kernel also raise) and Ihave no other chance than to reset it. The server cannot be contaced via http, but gives a perfect ping.
I also think this could be an external effect, after this seems to happen, after links to this site are published on twitter.
Your task will be to examine this, find out the cause, and give suggestions on how to fix this. You will get full root access to the server, you are allowed to install any kind of logging software, but you may not interfere with installed scripts, or webpage content or use it for any other purpose.
You also will get a notification email via my hosters monitoring system.
You need to keep a log, when and what you did on this server, and give me short email notifications when you worked on it.
The project will last a while, after you might have to wait for it to crash to examine it. However the real time you work on this, might not be that long, if you know what you are doing :)
If you are doing a good job, I might hire you again for supporting me on this project.
