I need a basic easy to maintain forum/message board for a website. Open to suggestions. It will need to be PHP / MySQL based.
I have never implemented a forum before, so I am open to suggestions to how this might work. I also need to know if there is any special considerations for my web host - my current host allows for PHP and MySQL databases.
Basically: You would click a link 'Message Board' on my website, which would bring you to the forum and allow users to enter messages.
I will consider either a forum where the user has to register - and receive an email to verify their email address, or - a forum where they don't have to register. I think the one without registering would be easier to maintain perhaps, but if this was the case, I would need some sort of verification before posting - one of those where you have to enter the a generated image text: 'GdseFE' for example.
Here is an idea of what I would want the initial forum page to look like (which should be editable):
[url removed, login to view]
..Although, most likely a much simpler version. I'm not too concerned with flashy graphics, - as long as it is secure and functional. I like the basic functionality of that forum. I would also really only need one heading. Whereas that forum has a few:
ZEOS Library - General
ZEOS DBO V 6.x
For example, I would just need the one heading, but with a few sub categories under that heading.
Tell me what ideas you have in mind. Using other templates or other designed forums is fine, as long as you can customise it to my specifications and show me how to install and maintain it.
Tell me your ideas.
1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.
b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
I will need instructions on how to maintain the forum, and answers along the way to any simple questions that I might have.
Compatible with RedHat Linux and the Apache web host.
