Project Description

You are welcome to bid on this revised project scope (attached). It now is intended for a single user (only me).

Comments from the coders on the original project scope have convinced me that the app is not scalable in PHP and expensive to approach in any case.

Sorry to report that I am scaling back this project to what I need most immediately. Perhaps I will try for the larger project again at some later point.

The project is described here but the full project description, with better formatting, is in the attached pdf.

Program Name: Delta Check (REVISED)

Copyright © joelinusa 2013 June 30, 2013

Program Description
This program will create a web app that I can use to check for changes in specified URLs. It will send one of several emails to specified addresses if and when a change in a monitored URL is detected. Here are the details.

1. The admin page:
a. Will be password protected
i. The password will be admin22 and will be changeable from the admin page
b. Will have a screen that displays:
i. Each URL being checked
ii. The frequency with which it is checked (every 5 minutes, hourly or daily)
iii. The email address to which a notice will be sent when the url changes
iv. The checking critera for each URL (see below for details)
v. The date the URL checking was initiated
vi. The display will be sortable (by date initiated, email, and URL)
vii. A way to add another URL to check.
c. The admin page will allow suspension or deletion of any single URL or all URLs

2. Checking description/criteria:
i. Check for any change in one or both of 2 ways
(1) Every time the URL changes from the previous time it was checked
(2) Every time the URL is not the same as it was when checking began
ii. Check for the addition of any specific word or phrase
iii. Check for the omission of any specific word or phrase
iv. Check that the URL is up
v. If the URL is a pdf or exe file, etc., check size of file rather than change
inside pdf, exe, etc.

3. Email Change Notice: Description/criteria
a. App will send an email notice if any of the above criteria are met
i. The email will have information in the subject line identifying the criterion
that triggered the email
b. App will have the option to send an email notice if the site was successfully
monitored and found to be unchanged. The frequency of this “unchanged” email will be selected on the admin page and need not be the frequency of checking the URL

4. The email sent on detecting a change:
a. Will describe the reason for the email (i.e., one of the 4 criteria or that the site is
i. Subject line will include the URL, for example
(1) Change in http:/[url removed, login to view]
(2) No change in http:/[url removed, login to view]
ii. Body will have details, for example
(1) URL listed below has changed since last checked on date
(2) URL listed below has changed since checking initiated on date
(3) URL listed blow now contains the word or phrase WORD

5. Functionality
a. When a URL is first entered the app will check that the URL actually exists
i. If the URL is not valid, a warning pops up on the screen and the user is allowed to change the URL.
b. If the request is authenticated the checking for changes begins. An email is sent under any or all of these conditions, as chosen on the admin page:
i. Every time the URL changes from the previous time it was checked
ii. Every time the URL is not the same as it was when checking began
iii. When a specific word or phrase is added
iv. When a specific word or phrase is no longer present
v. When the URL is checked and found to be the same as the last time it was
checked or when checking began (at a frequency selected by the user)
