I have a heavily modified oscommerce MS2+ website where the host just moved it to a new server.
It worked fine for about 2 years on the old server but on the new server I keep getting a 2006 - MySQL server has gone away error on the following page: [url removed, login to view]
It usually only seems to happen when someone checks out using a credit card. I will receive a payment but also receive the database error(s) so the order is not written to the website. Then I have to hassle with figuring out what they ordered and send an email telling them about the problem and asking them to verify what they ordered and where they want it shipped. Then I have to manually enter their order choosing money order so I have a record of the order. As you can see, this is getting to be a headache after only about a week so I need it fixed ASAP.
The credit card module I am using is PayPal Website Payments Pro (US) Direct Payments
[url removed, login to view],22
There is also the following database error at the same time:
select count(*) as total from sessions where sesskey = 'b1f840e0351ee36012174c80' (session number changed for obvious reasons)
I did get the error once when someone checked out using Paypal. Here is the error that came from the following file:
[url removed, login to view]
2006 - MySQL server has gone away
select txn_id from paypal where txn_id = '0J9588732C553645K' limit 1
I have code on the website that redirects my customer to the home page instead of displaying the error and the code sends me emails with the error message and the URL info. This is how I see the error messages.
Since the site is on shared hosting and the host does not want to increase the time allowed for the [url removed, login to view] file to process and I understand it is doing a lot of stuff...I am wondering if the file could be optimized to make it process faster?
I have another website hosted somewhere else that runs slower but I was comparing some server settings and noticed that the slower website has mysql.connect_timeout set at 30 and the website I am having problems with on the [url removed, login to view] has the mysql.connect_timeout set at 20.
I do have a [url removed, login to view] file but am not sure if their system lets you override their standard server settings. In other words I am not sure if my [url removed, login to view] file is doing anything or if something needs to be added to the .htaccess file to make it work?
I know the [url removed, login to view] file is doing a lot of things and am wondering if the database queries can be optimized or the file optimized to run faster and not time out?
I have thought about the one page checkout contribution but don't know if that would help or not.
This website has had auctionblox added and I know it is mixed up in the checkout too but don't know how to remove it since I no longer use auctionblox.
Ultimately, I need the checkout page(s) optimized so the website does not get the MySQL timeout.
I will need this done on 2 similar websites hosted at the same place. One of the sites is fairly busy so I would prefer to have a test site made before moving the changed files to the live site.
