Project Description

Hey expert coder! How are you?

Are you tired of working with people with little-to-no technical background?

People that pitch an idea and finish it up with, "that shouldn't take too long, right?"

Their specs are fuzzy. Their scope unknown.

They use you like a prostitute then leave you with some crumpled up twenty dollar bills.

Would you like to work with someone with a clear, thought out plan of action? Someone who builds things?

I'm a front-end guy, but I need you....

....We need each other.

I use pretty colors and make responsive stuff. You make shit work. You work magic. I play with CSS powered crayons.

I'm writing this job because I'm hiring a programmer to build the preliminary components of a web app that's built on Wordpress Multisite.

The first part will be challenging and fun. You'll be getting the app's foundation setup, nothing more, and nothing less.

If I like what you've got, we'll continue with the project. I'll take your advice, and let you make important technology and design decisions. You'll become my go-to-guy.

I'll pay for the best talent, as it will be required. And, look, I'm trying to find a programmer that I can build a relationship with.

With that said....Read on.

You Will Be Required To:

1.) Build to the specs below.
2.) Deploy to a live web server for me to test.
3.) Use a VPS like Digital Ocean, Linode, [url removed, login to view], or RackSpace. You'll need root access to test this project.
4.) Detailed commenting in your code. I love comments.

Skills & Prerequisites:

--Significant Wordpress experience, and can prove it.
--Understand and use: Git, Github, Vagrant, Puppet, and WPMU's MarketPress / WooCommerce
--Linux, nginx web server, and VPS administration, mysql and PHP-FPM
--Use WP-Skeleton and WP-Stack (with capistrano) for deploying WP.

DO THIS:

***
1.) Setup a local virtual machine using Vagrant. I don't care what linux distro you use.

This would work:
[url removed, login to view]

2.) Provision with Puppet. Write your own manifest.

3.) Install Wordpress multi-site using WP-Skeleton. Be sure you're using git.

4.) Add a theme. Any theme will do. Add in woocommerce plugin.

5.) Setup WP-Stack...Configure Capistrano to deploy to staging server.

6.) Deploy to staging so I can test.

Testing Phase:

You show me the deploy process in the terminal (take a screen capture and youtube it). I want to see the exact commands.

You give me link to live site on dev server.

If we like each other, project is extended.

***

This project will be fun. If you never used WP-Skeleton, or WP-Stack, you've just improved your Wordpress skills. IMPORTANT: To weed out the people who don't read the specs (you know who) please put in the title of your response "Wordpress Expert." Failure to include that phrase will result in an immediate disqualification of your bid.

Did I mention this app needs a bit more work? Hopefully this little bit goes well.

I pay by the hour. This should take a pro (with no WP-Skeleton / WP-Stack experience) 3-6 hours. If you've worked with this setup before...A couple of hours time, maybe even 1/2 hour.

No Vagrant experience? Ok, tack on four or five hours, you've got some reading to do. Never written a Puppet manifest? Get reading my friend.

I won't underestimate a job, because I know you'll take a shortcut. Measure twice, cut once. If this project takes you more than 6 hours, we weren't meant to be.

Have a question for me? Just ask! Thanks, I look forward to working with you.
