Project Description

This project is to build an application that allows the user to generate a piece of artwork. The program will house 2 types of files - Images and Stencils. Images are black and white images, usually derived from photos. Stencils are also just image files, but smaller in size. The user will be able to select 1-n stencils, and an image, and will then draw the image using the stencils. Example files will be provided.

Programming language for this program is not important. Because the image generator is probably going to be fairly processor intensive, it might make sense to make this a client app running locally on the users desktop. Building it as a web application is also fine, but if web technologies are used, we prefer open source (Ruby, PHP, MySQL etc..) as we will host it with an inexpensive provider.

The attached document details 3 use cases for the project, and includes all requirements (in terms of courses, capabilities and business rules) as well as screenshots with associated descriptions of each screen. Users intending to bid on the application should know that we will be testing the finished product against this document for completeness. We would like the finished product to look like commercial quality software (no spelling mistakes, clean user interface with form fields properly justified etc..). While it will not be sold and will only be used internally, the user interface is one indicator of the quality of the source code, and we will be very thorough in reviewing both.

There is a digital image processing software product available for free called ImageMagick that may be useful in building this software, and acting as the image processing engine. We are not technical enough to evaluate it, but there software can be reviewed here:

In addition, we created a thread on the ImageMagick forum describing our problem. The responses and possible solutions can be found here:

We will supply the chosen company with the various images files referenced in the attached requirements document, once a selection has been made. Those companies with experience with ImageMagick, Digital Image Processing or development of similar types of products (with reference portfolios) will be rated highly.

Thank you for taking a look!
