Project Description

I need to develop a product registry system. The primary objective is to create a secure master database of products. When a product creator registers with the system they can create individual products or series or collections of products. Each series has a unique series identifier. Each product within a series (or individual products not in a series) will have a unique product identifier. When the database is populated, people can search the database by product identifier, series identifier, product name and/or product creator or company name to see all products in the system from a particular product creator.

Once products are registered in the system, the second part of the technology is to track ownership. When a product is created, it has a product ID but does not have an owner id associated with it. The product creator can then transfer ownership of the product through the user interface by entering a user id or the email address of the person they are transferring to. The system then puts the product into “transferring status.” The person who ownership was transferred to, will receive a link in their email. When they click the link and login to the system or register a new account to login, they can then accept the transfer. There is a fee to accept transfer of an item. Users will need to pay through a secure system to complete an individual product transfer or the transfer of a series of products. When transfer is accepted the product is then given a unique product owner id associated with a particular product and with the new owner of that product. Each subsequent transfer goes through the same process. A user who has an item registered with their account as part of their collection can transfer ownership of that product to another user of the system or they can simply enter an email account for a non-registered user to transfer the item. As in the first case, the item is put into “transferring status” and the new user can choose to accept the registration. They pay a fee through a secure system to accept the transfer. The master database stores all transferring activity associated with a particular product. Owners or product originators can also choose to transfer an entire collection, which would allow all product ids associated with one series of products to transfer to a new owner with a single transfer.

When someone searches a product or collection id, product creator na,e or product name, they should be able to see the entire chain of transfer for a particular product or a collection/series of products.
