We are looking for one or more people who we can regularly rely on to do tiny and small projects. In some cases it would involve installations or customizations of existing script or software. Many of our development will be from existing development that is under GNU license or our own scripts.
We compare costs against overseas offers (by overseas, we mean outside of the USA). Person(s) offering services must sign NDA, and allow background check of them and the company he/she represents. Companies providing managed developers are welcome as well, and executives of company would need to sign NDA and allow background check. Overseas developers are welcome as well, but English communication ability will be needed, or the manager of the developer needs to communicate in English.
We will try things by starting with a small project for taking existing script or code that is used for Cricket (Cricket usage is similar to MRTG), which uses RRD, and adding new code (if needed). We simply want the data for the previous month to be extracted from the RRD database and on the first of each new month, then the 95th percentile calculated for each router and port and/or VLAN (only one router for project), and compared to the threshold set for that port or VLAN. Usage summery for all the routers and ports will be emailed to Billing, and if any have used more than their set threshold, then that piece of data is marked somehow, and the over-usage is indicated as well.
The company for which tasks and projects will be done for is a small ISP (can be considered a start-up, but has been around several years). For now, we are extremely budget limited, so remember this when making bids. This may be an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a start-up that has overcome many difficult hills of the past and current economy. Those who are talented and want to volunteer their services to establish a relationship to either learn or in the hopes of getting in on the ground floor of the ISP are also welcome.
Person or people selected will need to be able to do shell script, know Perl and/or PHP very well. Familiarity with MySQL is a big advantage, and obviously you will need to know or be very comfortable with Linux.
Note that we are familiar with programming, and have done programming.
The ideal person is a person who has both Developer experience and System Administrator ability.
