Project Description

[See pdf's or XML's attached: built using balsamiq mockups]

Basic (public) platform for students of a particular university to vote for improvements they'd like to see happen on campus.

Students with more influence can cast more powerful votes.

Suggestions are ranked using reddits 'hot ranking' open source formula (google it?)

Comments are ranked using reddits 'confidence' open source forumla (again: google it?)

'Points' is determined by a linear algorithm (see [1] below)

Impact = Points*Multiplier

Multiplier is determined by a logarithmic algorithm (see [2] below)

I am on lesson 20/50 of LearnPythonTheHardWay and through learning python, will hopefully be able to take over maintenance and changes after the build has been finished.

Python is my personal preference but I'm open to a php developer applying to this project

Please message me any questions.

[1] (+X refers to the increase in influence attributed to an individual)

Points = 0... +

+1 If anonymous

(maximum 50 anonymous votes on a submission to curb cheating)

+4 for entering the correct email confirmation code (confirming the account)

+1 for each group the member is a part of

+2 for each social media link clicked on (see [url removed, login to view])

+5 if a committee member of a group

+1 for every member of your group which signs up after you

+50 for special persons (Paid University of Bristol Union sabbatical officers and other staff, who must receive a special sign-up link sent directly to them)

+100 for President of UBU (who receives a special sign-up link sent directly to him)

+200 for Vice Chancellor and his 5 closest colleagues (who receive a special sign-up link sent directly)

+400 for Chancellor (who receives a special sign-up link sent directly to her)

note: Log = log to the base 10

Multiplier = 1 + ( Log ( 1 + Log (Points Earned)^2 + Log (Ideas Submitted)^3 + Log (Social Media Clicks)^4 ) )
