WHM Set-up of CSR (Certificate Signing Request) on domains server

In Progress

I will install my own SSL in a later project, you must first obtain a Certificate Signing Request (CSR)

The CSR will need to be generated on the server itself in WHM control panel of which I will provide access to the winning bid coder- this is because when you create the CSR, you also will be creating a private key. This key is what will be used to decrypt the information that is encrypted with the future SSL certificate. Generating this CSR on the server that the SSL certificate will be installed on prevents issues such as loss of the private key, or a key mismatch.

If the SSL needs to be installed during the CSR set up then you must notify me of this DURING or BEFORE the bidding process for this project. My experience is limited although I am a programmer myself, a very busy one.

WHM offers a very easy to use tool for generating your CSR. You can navigate to Home > SSL/TLS > Generate a SSL Certificate and Signing Request to create your CSR. CPanel will automatically fill in a lot of information based on things already configured on the server. You can read more about WHM's CSR generation here: [url removed, login to view]

Once you are in Home > SSL/TLS > Generate an SSL Certificate and Signing Request, I suggest selecting "When complete, email me the certificate, key, and CSR" and entering your email address in the box below. It is always good to have a backup of important information like this.

For 'private key options' 2048 (the default) will be sufficient. For domains, go ahead and enter the domain(s) you want to create the CSR for. SSL certificates are only good for the exact domain typed (so, if you type it in with the www. then the SSL will be for the www. version of the site - this is most commonly dealt with using .htaccess url rewrites, you can use or leave off the www, whichever is preferred).

Cpanel access will be provided for the domain being upgraded with CSR. This will require you to use a passphrase - this can be anything simple and easy to remember, as CSR paraphrases are not important in the same sense that a server or account password is.

Please let me know if you have any questions about generating your CSR or any other issues, if problems arrive during the install you will be provided custom server tech support access so that you can deal directly with the server support by email and or phone.
