I am working on a website that will allow users to browse through a database of MP3 files. Users will have the capability of sorting the files by author, genre, date, and other fields. There should also be a "search" function as well as "advanced search" with multiple fields. I would also like to be able to embed listings on certain pages of the site, for example, put a script onto a specific page that would automatically display all MP3's by a specified artist. I'll need to be able to do the same for genres as well.
Users will be able to download for free, but they will have the option of becoming a member. Members will have "accounts," which tell them what files they have downloaded and when, and they will be able to set alerts so that they receive an email when new MP3s are available that suit their tastes. As with most membership sites, we would need the site to send new members a "confirmation" email, etc. We'll also need a way of managing the list of members, harvesting their email addresses and giving them the capability to change their passwords at any time.
I am not sure how best to approach the installation, as I will be handling the interface design and embedding of code onto the page. I don't have much experience with databases, but I am assuming it is pretty straitforward. Perhaps all I would need is a written documentation of what/how to deploy your database on my server.
I need to start this project within two months.
