I need to write and test a simple VB6 SQL interface to a remote Oracle DB ( get 10 fields out of a certain record). Mostly I need help testing here in Mountain View, California because my first customer for this is in Korea. They'll modify the code (server name, DB & table names, search) after I get it basically running. The person I want is comfortable with VB6, SQL and the remote Data control, and can set me up with a little DB server I can test with, and modify my code to demonstrate finding a record and reading a few fields. The DB server for testing can be installed at my office or maybe over the internet (I don't know if that is practical) I imagine it's 2-8 hrs of work.
You will modify my little VB6 application and set me up to test making a remote SQL query. The zip file contains my little VB6 application that is designed for my customer to modify for reading from his database. This application then sends the data via a WinSock to my main program. You will ignore the WinSock, and just access the database, and display the result on the screen. I may turn this into a DLL later. This app. contains some MS Remote Data Control (RDC) code that I took from an old project someone wrote for me 10 years ago. The main problem is helping me test this. Fixing my RDC code should be easy for you. Testing it here may be easy--but that's where I need experienced help. In the end my customer should be able to set the host, DB name, table, and then get the data from his Oracle DB. I will pay a bonus when my customer verifies that he was able to do that.
