Project Description

(Don't forget to download our word doc on this job.)

Need assistance to alter some programs to read data from the cloud instead of reading it from our local in house servers. The work would consist of going through all the code in these programs (vb6 and [url removed, login to view] and some vb for application)to find all instances of saving, updating, deleting data or querying tables for any purpose. We want our desktop applications to be able to access its data from a cloned copy of our local data stored on the web in similarly named tables. We also want the ability to switch back to our local servers if we choose. To accomplish this need we propose to have all the connection strings used to access the tables stored in a table on the cloud and in a similar table on our local network. These tables will contain the appropriate connection strings needed to access the info from the cloud or from the local server. The program will know which connection string to use by first checking its ini file that would tell it from which location “cloud or local” to access the data. The program would contain a function (that you would write in [url removed, login to view]) which would access the table containing these connection strings. These values obtained from the connection string table would then be used as the variable returned by the function to be used by the program to access its data for whatever table being queried.

The function would consist of an argument representing the needed connection string.. See below:

ConnectionString = GetConnString(“CoinData”)

The “coindata” represents the server which contains the data that will be queried after the “connectionstring” is acquired.

The proposed design for the table holding the connection strings is contained in the attached word doc.
