I am asking an electronics expert to design a device that is simple to manufacture and reliable to use.
Required Components:
-Small LED Display (between 3 and 6 square centimeters in area)
-On/Off Push Button
-Current Up Push Button
-Current Down Push Button
-1 Anode Wire, 1 Cathode Wire
-9V Battery
Basic Circuit Functionality:
-Mainain any current the user sets be 0 and 2.0 mA in 0.1 increments given variable resistance between 2,000 Ohms and 30,000 Ohms.
-Detect when circuit is broken (anode —> device with variable resistance —> cathode) and power down.
-Prevent a current above 2.0 mA from ever going through the circuit.
Circuit Notes:
-The device with variable resistance will need to be simulated. In use this device will actually be the human body.
Desired User Experience:
-Press On/Off Button
-LED shows “0.0 mA”
-Press Up button once.
-If circuit is not complete: LED shows “Connect”
-If circuit is complete: LED shows “0.1 mA”. Current is flowing at 0.1 mA.
-Pressing Up button repeatedly brings current up to “2.0” but not higher.
-Pressing Down button brings current down by 0.1 mA.
-If circuit is broken while current is flowing, device powers off immediately.
-If On/Off Button is pressed for more than 2 seconds while current is above 0, the current will step down at a rate of 0.1 mA every 1 second. Then the device will power off.
-If On/Off Button is pressed for more than 2 seconds while current is at 0, the device will simply power off.
Goals:
-Minimize cost of components (Max $35)
-Keep manufacturing process simple (Max 20 min to assemble by a non-expert)
*Using Arduinos and any ready-made-components is perfectly acceptable even encouraged
-Keep the size relatively small (This will be a hand-held device that fits in someone’s pocket)
Deliverables:
-Functioning prototype (Does not need to have an enclosure, but that would be a bonus)
-List of components with prices and product URL (must be able to purchase)
-Step-by-step description of a Quality Control process (test and confirm functionality of a manufactured circuit, should take no more than 10 min)
