Children's Book Editing

Budget $50 - $100 USD

This project is for a unique style of book that involves a storyline that changes depending on choices made by the reader. The text for each of the pages has been written, but may not be properly worded for a young reader. The reading level desired is targeted to be suitable for early readers, ages 7 to 10. There is also a desire to include excitement, intrigue and adventure into the reader’s experience. In other words, take my writings and make them fun!

Each of the 22 pages for the project will be carefully detailed concerning the expectations of the text. Collaborative communication between the editor and employer will involve agreement on the completion of each page and feedback for any needed revisions.

Consider this typical example of a page's text, “Rowing across the water was tiring, but you are encouraged by having arrived at the small island with a moment to rest on the sandy beach. The high rising hillside cliffs in front of you suggest that you could follow the shoreline that disappears around a treacherous but passable rocky shore to the right. You notice markings in the nearby sand that appear to be footprints leading in the other direction towards what looks like a seldom used pathway entering a line of bushes and palm trees. Having regained your strength, you realize it is time to move on, but which way?”

The page’s illustration shows what is described in the text, a boy kneeling in the sand in front of a steep cliff with a beach that ends in a rocky shore to the right and a tree line with a pathway to the left. The reader needs to get a sense of the feeling of being in the boy’s place and facing the decision of choosing a direction. Each of the other 21 pages will be defined by the unique scene presented to the boy (reader) with a selection of movement options illustrated. Each decision will lead the reader to a predetermined page where yet another storyline option is presented. It is most important that the text from one connecting page to another is consistent so that the reader feels as though they are “moving” through the story as it progresses.

All bidders are requested to submit a sample rewriting of the page text example previously described. The intention of the sample editing is to confirm communication capabilities between the bidder and the employer. Reading and writing in English is required for this project in order to collaborate on writing details and ideas. The project will need to be completed within 10 days. Payment will be made using the Milestone Payment System.

If you are interested in bidding on this project, and you think that you have the imaginative skills to improve a story that will thrill the audio senses of young children, then please submit your bid along with a PM including your suggested rewording of the sample text. Thank you for considering this project.

I've been in the freelance writing business for the past five years. I started on $1 for 500 words (which I now find repulsively underpaid) and by dint of my hard work, I've reached where I am. I now know what it takes to write in a way that is not only persuasive, but genuine and informed with a real sense of informative quality that leaves a lasting impression.

I would like to introduce myself and offer my services as a Spanish English translator and writer. My name is Katie Das, and I have been working as a translator for the past 6 years. During this time, I have had the opportunity to work translating many subjects for an educational publishing company. These include mathematical problems, student and teacher directives both in student workbooks and teacher's guides, poems and songs, themed readers and books, and business letters for the company. My experience extends back to my time spent studying philosophy at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and working as a full time teacher in Quertaro, Mexico. I spent one year in both Spain and Mexico and have a vast knowledge and deep understanding of the language and its nuances. I also have extensive experience writing both academically and professionally. My writing skills are superb, and I take the time to polish every sentence and paragraph so everything flows well together. I just published a book through an ebook publishing company, and I will be writing more. As a translator and writer, I am committed to quality, collaboration when necessary, and professionalism. I aim to translate with high-quality writing skills as a basis. I can also work in the editing/proofreading realm paying close attention to detail and making the words flow and come together. See my attached resume for more detailed experience. Please feel free to contact me regarding any future projects and collaboration you have in mind. I am a writer by profession and avocation. I have been proofreading for 9 years and writing for publication since I was in high school. I started proofreading for my uncle, who was a writer, when I was in elementary school. I am familiar with medical terminology and have done medical proofreading as well as having wide general knowledge. I have edited my own monthly newsletter for bereaved parents for the last nine years, and on the side have edited and proofread class assignments, term papers, final papers and theses for seminary, university and post-university students includin g those who are non-native English writers. I have lived in London and am fluent in English. I have proofread web pages and have seen too many others that needed it. I like the flow of language and good writing, including poetry, and enjoy using my skills to maximize the clarity and impact of what others write. A paper, web page, project or poem should communicate clearly the message that you want to leave with your reader. Misspelled words, misused words, typographical errors, redundancy and inconsistent formatting detract from your work. I will fine-tune your written document, poem, web page or other written piece so that nothing distracts the reader from your message
