I am now accepting bids for a proofreader for a science fiction book written in English from an American author.
This is for proofreading only. That is, I am looking for basic grammatical, spelling and punctuation corrections. This is a manuscript that we have already line edited. It will be from 107K to 110K words.
Here is what I expect the proofreader to find:
**errors of grammar and style (e.g., verb tense, units such as ml, use of numerals and words such as “5” or “five”)
**errors of capitalization, punctuation (e.g., the use of commas, semicolons, colons, periods, dashes, apostrophes)
**errors of spelling and word usage (e.g., to/too, affect/effect)
DO bid on my project if:
**You like and have experience proofreading
**You have proofread a science fiction book previously
DO NOT bid on my project if:
**You reply to bids with a copy and paste.
**You don't read projects and reply with a copy and paste
**You send me copy and paste email (do you detect a theme here?)
**You hate science fiction
This is the first book of a series. While each book is connected, each also stands alone. If you win this bid and do an awesome job and we click, I will be very inclined to hire you for proofreading in the future.
Do not underbid (there are over 100k words in the novel), nor provide unrealistic project completion dates. Again, this novel already underwent line editing.
Here is what the book is about:
Investigator Lexus Toulouse, ex-soldier extreme, learns she must find a war-era serial killer.
Soon after, Lexus finds her Libido Generator is on the fritz, her old warship wants to “get back together” and her impromptu partner, Scott, seems to be displaying peculiar mental abilities while stirring the odd romantic feelings in her. She doesn’t want odd romantic feelings. She already has four husbands!
The case takes a turn for the worse when she mistakenly plugs herself into a simulation of the murders. Now memories of the terrible war surface and it all comes crashing down on her sanity. She wants to do the right thing, but if the right thing is bringing back the soldier she buried deep within herself, can she ever go back to her quiet postwar existence? She struggles to overcome her no-win choice: keep her sanity, or catch the killer.
