In an inelastic collision, total momentum is conserved, but total mechanical energy is not. Because of
this loss of total mechanical energy, the magnitudes of the velocities after the collision are also smaller
than those before the collision. For an object participating in the collision, the ratio of its ﬁnal speed to
its initial speed depends on multiple factors, like the material it is made of, the material characteristics
of the objects it collided with, and the initial speeds of all objects involved in the collision.
In this experiment, you will measure the speeds before and after colliding with the ﬂoor for diﬀerent balls. You will then determine their coeﬃcients of restitution,
where v2 is the rebound speed, v1 is the speed just before impact. As shown in the equation, e can also
be written in terms of the square root of the ratio of maximum heights reached, h1 before the collision,
and h2 after the collision, if we assume that air resistance is negligible.
Plot the graph of Position vs. time, Velocity vs. time, Acceleration vs. time and Vertical force
vs. time .
Plot the graph of. kinetic energy vs. time, potential energy vs. time
Determine the coeﬃcient of restitution of the ball, as well as the impulse it delivered.
Repeat the experiment with diﬀerent of balls.(Basketball,Soccerball and Tennis ball used)
