Project Description

We are requesting a developer to create a unified system that integrates a number of location based (LBS) platforms, as well as, a merchant and ad promotion platform.

We are open to using a combination of technologies to create a solution including:


Tracking & Analytics: GEOTAB, GPSGate

User Display: OneBusAway, Google Maps, Google Transit

Merchant Specials & Analytics: Foursquare, Geotoko

Our goal is to create a system involving public service vehicles (PSVs) that essentially integrates three applications for three (3) different types of users. The system should provide tools to monitor PSVs, analyze their behaviour, provide reports and communicate special deals/promotions.

The system should be accessible via the web and also on mobile browsers. Eventually (beyond v1 of system) the system should also be accessible via native mobile apps (Android, iOS) & SMS.

The website should be the primary access point to the system and should provide three (3) portals - one for each app.

Application 1 – Authority Application

Function: Displays analytics and reports on tracked vehicles (for an “Authority” user)


- Create profile and log into system.

- Generate reports (reporting provided by fleet tracking platform)

- View analytics on multiple PSVs

- View detailed information on multiple PSVs (subset of total system)

- Generate reports and see analytics on multiple PSVs (reporting provided by fleet tracking platform)

- View detailed information on multiple PSVs (subset of total system)

Application 2 – Commuter Application

Function: Displays tracked vehicle locations on a moving (digital map) that shows regularly travelled routes (for a “Commuter” user)


- View multiple routes,

- See live movement of PSVs

- Generate trip information

- Get recommendations and travel times for trips

- View basic information on multiple PSVs

- See specials from merchants in nearby areas.

Application 3 – Merchant Application

Function: Enable merchants to create, manage and communicate specials/promotions on the Commuter Application (for a “Merchant” user)


- Create a profile similar to that of foursquare

- Create specials/promotions

- Manage specials/promotions

- Promote specials/promotions and reward frequent shoppers

- See user's/ visitors shopping patterns (similar to foursquare)

We must be able to bill the merchant to be displayed on the maps that Commuters see.

Creating Version 1 of the system

1. In each portal, there should be a unified layout and look and feel to the system.

2. The production of the v1 of the project should be a month or less and subsequent upgrades should be added to this functionality. This project will be ongoing over the coming months and the development company should be prepared to provide service level agreements for maintenance, repairs and upgrades.

3. The selected company will be provided with an SRS document. The price to produce v1 of this project should be approx. US$3,000. Your estimate should outline what you can deliver for the v1 of this project, how you would integrate the system, how the system will evolve over time and associated costs.
