Need program to read three excel spreadsheets to compare data in a csv file

Hello, My name is Chris and, as you can see from my profile, I have 15+ years experience working with Excel/VBA and 13+ years teaching them both. There is no any reason to "move" the VBA macros from an Excel file to another, the solution is to have the VBA code "embedded" into Excel itself. This means that there will be a new tab in Excel's ribbon, showing 2 buttons: One button will allow the user to select the new xlsx files and the csv file, and the second button which will do the comparisons and will create the final "report". PS- Macro's wont need to be copy pasted every time. We can develop inbuilt features to browse the file location from your PC. Macros can generally perform every task you would require. Hi there, I read your project and it is interesting and quite simple. Reading a .xlsx file is common for several languages and using a Macro or Excel Plugin would result counter-productive because you'll need to open Excel to process your files. So, being that the case I'd use Java for your solution. With solid rock Java, you can read all four files, the three excel files and csv and process them in no time. You final solution will be only one .jar file, which will contain all the necessary components to process your files, including the database, yes, forget about MS-Access, this database won't do any good to your project. Java has many databases which can be embedded into the final .jar file, so that you only have to carry only one file. This single file on its first execution will create a folder with the database files needed to process the files to use. You can configure the Java App to read a predetermined set of files in one location and/or create a cron job, so the Java app executes every day, load the parameters you set, process the files and create the report. All this, fully automatic, with no user intervention but the initial configuration. Have no doubt that Java along with an embedded database (e.g. H2, HSQL or Derby) are the best solution for your project. You say that the weekly download create new spreadsheet/files, ok. But cannot a macro be created on a fourth and permanent xlsx file? Even an Access file could be considered like a fourth file. By the way, Excel or Access, is not a technical problem for me. How many records are stored in these file? When you say that we have to insure there are no matching names ... how many fields should be compared?

I have dealt with programmatic access of Spreadsheets and CSV files to validate and generate custom reports. I will write this in Java with enough documentation so that it is easy to maintain by your developers.
