SAMBA is an alternative networking protocol ([url removed, login to view]) used to allow interoperability between Windows and other operating systems.
We wish to set up SAMBA on our internal LAN in Toronto and then extend it to our VLAN/VPN to support two remote offices (Ottawa and Montreal).
Ours is a mixed environment. We have servers running Windows Server 2003 and 2008 and clients running WinXP. Importantly, we also have machines running OS/2 and we wish to connect them to Windows via SAMBA as well. We don't expect a contractor to be familiar with OS/2 but are looking for expertise in the installation and configuration of SAMBA on Windows. We do not have LINUX machines in our environment but would (perhaps reluctantly) consider operating a Linux machine to operate as a single-purpose SAMBA controller.
This opportunity is not yet perfectly defined and will proceed only if we can identify a contractor in whom we have confidence.
Valcomp is a Canadian distributor of IT products, established in 1989. We employ nine persons in four offices.
Thank you for your consideration.
