You should explain in detail the function of each component.

Research should be undertaken on the engine and its specification, the emissions standards that the vehicle(s) had to comply to. Also the technologies used to meet the emissions requirements for the vehicle(s) should be investigated.

Observations should be made with respect to the technologies used throughout the engine and the design of individual components to reduce emissions and meet legislative requirements.

The engine capacity should be calculated as accurately as possible and an understanding gained on of how this is derived.

For an individual major component of the engine the mass production routes and supplier should be investigated.

For the given component supplier, research should be undertaken into their business strategy, main customers and production sites. The impact of globalisation of the automotive industry should be considered for this particular supplier.

Research should be undertaken to look at the latest technological advances in the component selected with respect to materials, manufacturing or emissions reductions (if applicable).

You should produce a personal review highlighting the experiences gained during the tasks assigned, identifying your strengths and areas for improvement. (This can be used as part of your PDP file.)
