The owner of a small independent Garage has asked for your project team to prepare an initial system proposal for the development of a computerised booking & management system to replace the existing paper system. The Garage is a small company and is not on the scale of national garage chains such as Kwik Fit or Hi-Q although it is similar in that it does not sell motor vehicles. It only has six staff, the administrator, a lead mechanic and four general mechanics. The Garage owner does not work at the garage. The administrator and lead mechanic, who cover all activities needed to manage the garage, such as ordering additional parts, dealing with customer enquiries and taking bookings. The initial systems proposals will be used by the Garage owner to objectively assess which design consultancy team should be awarded the contract. The scope of the system must include, but need not be limited to the following:
• The processing of all customer payments for services, MOTs and general repair work conducted on vehicles.
• The processing of all orders to suppliers to replenish part levels.
• The processing of all deliveries from suppliers.
• The updating of budget information for the Garage.
• The provision of online reports for the Garage administrator and lead mechanic.
