Project Description

Website Project with Price Calculator

I am a part time visual basic programmer but I mainly run a printing company in the UK and don’t have the time to construct this project myself and for this reason I would like this project built mainly using Visual Web Developer so that I can easily maintain it and assist the provider with the business rule aspects of the project.

So ideally you will be fluent with [url removed, login to view] and Visual Web developer, I do accept that certain portions of this project would be better built in other languages.

The project will ultimately be sited on our dedicated web server running Microsoft IIS and the installation and testing of this should be included in your bid.

All bidders must submit to Milestone Payments, there will be no upfront direct payments.

All bidders must read the specifications thoroughly and reply accordingly, bidders who do not do this and this will be obvious, will be removed from the bidding process without further consideration.

This project is for the creation of part of a website for the sale of Printed Materials and is to include a bespoke calculator programmed using

The main part of the project will be the calculator section which will be based on 3 distinct products namely Books (Perfect Bound), Booklets (Stitched) and Leaflets there will be numerous options to consider for each of these products.

We utilise two different printing methods which are Digital Printing and Offset Printing, each of these have their own distinct cost base and when our client uses the calculator both methods will be calculated and the cheapest option will be displayed to the client.

The calculator will work out the price of manufacture for us based on the cost of materials and base costs, the material and base costs will be updateable without resorting to hard coding so there will be an administration section for this purpose. There will also be other variables such as minimum charge, minimum profit margin and a sliding scale of mark-up based on job value. I have some pre-built functions which can calculate most of the business rules and any that do not exist already can be constructed between us from existing formula. The calculator will also work out the weight of the shipment and shipping costs. The calculator will also display a picture of the product and full specification based on the client’s selections.

If the client accepts the price (or prices if there are multiple products) then they should be then able to enter their invoice and shipping information in the shopping cart and pay through a payment gateway or paypal. The client should also be able to upload their file(s) directly to the server for us to process. The system is meant to operate 24/7 and should provide an invoice back to the client immediately and a printable work order should be emailed directly to us. We should also be able to download invoice information from the site in csv format for bulk entry into our accounting system, this should be available in the admin section.

The shopping cart and payment gateway do not currently exist and a suitable solution should either be provided or discussed seperatley, please state with bid.

An example of similar sites is to be found at the following links

The above are just showing very basic functionality and we are looking for a more professional and complex solution than the above sites offer. The calculator should also be housed in a web page where we can add information dynamically from the admin section such as helpful tips, comments, pics, links etc.

I look forward to your bids and questions.
