A requirement exists for a basic pupil achievement tracking database (in MS Access 2007), which tracks a pupil’s progress over time against the standards of achievement set by the UK Department for Education as part of the National Curriculum.
The database should be secure and easy to maintain, and be able to record individual pupil’s performance in each subject not only against the expected levels of achievement laid down by the Department, but against those defined by the school (which may be at, or above, national levels). It must also be able to produce good quality reports on the data in a variety of ways; by pupil, by cohort (Class/Year Group/Key Stage), by gender and by subject on both current and historic data.
An additional requirement, over and above that of recording performance in the National Curriculum, is that the database should also be able to record the number, and type, of extra-curricular (‘enrichment’) activities that each child takes part in, and be able to collate this information in such a way as to demonstrate whether or not there is a correlation between the number of enrichment activities in which the pupil takes part and performance against the Department’s standards of achievement.
