Problem: Our LAN based client/server database has grown and our existing Access software fails regularly. This causes a loss of data, and a slow down of operations. The software vendor’s response is that we should start over with a new data set. I am not sure if its poor programing or Access itself. Either way this is unacceptable.
Details: We use software to track and assess our patient’s progress. Basically, we print a sheet (questionnaire ABC) that contains 5-20 questions. The patient then circles a numeric response for each question using a scale of 0-10 and turns the paper in to a staff member. The staff member pulls up the patients account, selects the matching questionnaire (questionnaire ABC), and selects the radio button that corresponds to the patient’s response for each question. The software then calculates the totals.
We do this numerous times throughout the treatment plan, in an effort to track (and prove) whether the patient is getting better. These tests are commonly known as “patient outcomes or outcome assessments” and although we only use about 10 forms, there are hundreds available.
The software then allows us to print a comparative report of all the tests performed.
Expectations: I’m open to suggestions for improving the software but the first priority is to have stable software that can be used by multiple people at the same time. The second priority would be to improve the data entry. I don’t see radio buttons as being the best method. I’m not even sure that Access is the best route to go either. I am open to whatever you think would speed up the process. Get creative :)
We will need all the existing functions to work such as patient entry, edit, deletion, and reporting. Clinic setup, ect.
I'm hopeful that most of what you need (forms and grading) is in the attached database. If not, then I'll choose 10 forms and supply the grading methodology.
When bidding, please tell me what database you'd use that will be rock solid in a network environment, and how you would improve upon the software functions especially the entry phase.
