Project Description

NOTE: At this point I do not require bids for building an application. I am looking for a freelancer to provide me with a list of information I need to provide (in addition to what's listed below) before I post the proposal for the 'official' build. After reading my outline below and looking at the attached process outline, what have I missed?

I recently visited a psychotherapist/counsellor/psychologist during a difficult time in my life. The therapist's job is to basically talk through troubling issues and help the client develop skills to better handle whatever is troubling them. I think this is an area in which web technology could be very helpful. My project is a web-based electronic journal (or diary) that allows the user to post entries and allows a therapist (authorized by the user) to post comments on those entries. All posts and comments are time/date stamped. There will also be a dashboard that summarizes some statistics about the user's content, as well as reporting functionality. (see the attachment for details)

Here's what I noticed about the process with my therapist and how I think my project would be of benefit to both the client/user and the therapist:

PROBLEM: I would often think of something important and relevant while at work or lying on the couch. But, when I was sitting in the therapist's office, it was very difficult for me think clearly and relax. SOLUTION: Users can post comments in their journal at any time (via the site or via email). The user and therapist can then review the posts during their face-to-face sessions. Each post will have a date/time stamp.

PROBLEM: The therapist and I would discuss solutions to my issues. The therapist would take notes, however I would not. After the session was over, I would generally forget most of what we talked about. SOLUTION: The therapist and user could review the posts on a computer and the therapist could type her notes directly (or copy+paste them) into the journal. As a result, the user can review his posts and the therapist's notes at any time...and even add more comments/questions. The therapist could also post comments between sessions.

PROBLEM: The therapist would keep handwritten notes in a file folder. These could be lost/damaged/destroyed or the therapist and client could (for whatever reason) be unable to continue to work together. SOLUTION: The therapist's notes would be saved in the web application. The client could find a new therapist and grant her online access to those notes (as well as enabling her to print/download them).

My expectation is that the successful bidder will provide:

- a list of questions I should answer before I post my request for the final build

- some ideas on the best platform(s) for my application
