College is demanding and requires a lot of time and effort, especially if a student wishes to do well. Academic articles and other readings assigned in college classes can be very challenging, and many people consider them to be dry and boring. As a result, some students are tempted to take shortcuts such as scanning the internet for information instead of doing the assigned reading and forming their own opinions, and some cut and paste the words and ideas of others instead of expressing their own opinions in their own words. Most college students don’t cheat in this way, but some do; a small percentage will even go so far as to copy entire papers from internet sources. How should behavior such as this be viewed in the context of the connected world in which we live?
