Directions: Choose ONE of the following topics and develop it into a thoughtfully constructed critical/analytical essay of four typewritten pages.
1. Explain the way in which the boundaries that have come to define Elisa Allen’s world,
both represent and limit her opportunities for self-expression in the story.
2. Do you think Elisa’s troubling breakdown at the end of the story is a sign of only
temporary defeat, or total submission to a world she cannot hope to change? Discuss
and provide evidence for your support.
Attached will find a topo-analysis, discussed in class, that might help to this analytical essay, you can use it as citation if you need it.
The paper must be on MLA Style and the Length should be 4 pages + 1 Works Cited page, must include at least two citation (paraphrase, direct quotation, summaries or factual info) on the analysis, of course using signal phrases as MLA style papers. See attached Image with some examples of signal phrases given in class.
The Works Cited page (5th page) must contain, in MLA Style, at least the “The Chrysanthemums” by John Steinbeck’s and the topo-analysis if you use it as reference.
