I engrave jewelry and need some help setting up a template file that can be imported into my engraving software. My goal is to have a template file/s, and in as few steps as possible, "import" a lot of vector files from a specific folder, line them up into a "grid/collage", and then export that file. The output file must be a vector file (svg, ai, dxf...).
I found this guys script package JJMacks Photo Collage Toolkit scripts [url removed, login to view] can almost do exactly what I need, but it's setup for Photoshop and does not support vector images.
I'm hoping someone can help me make it or something similar work using Illustrator and vector files. I don't need borders, shading or any other formatting.
A video of the above script working.

I need something simple, easy to operate and can be done with thousands of images. I'm also open to any other approach that might be a better option.
The attached sample image is just a quick idea of what I'm trying to do.
I need to clarify that I am not looking for a graphic template.
I am looking for a script that will allow me to:
1. select a template from a folder ( A template is a document that has a grid layout. I'll be adding new templates continually.)
2. select a folder with any number of vector images
3. place those images into the template at the desired locations
4. save as/export a vector file to a specified folder
*if the template only has enough spots for 4 images, but the folder contains more, then the script should process the first 4 images as above, and then continue the process until it has placed all the images in the folder.
