Here's how I will tackle the environment in Unreal;
1) I will create the assets in Maya and unfold UV maps, then based on your camera position in relation with the light source I will bake the UV texture and then import the models
2) I will layout the environment models and props according to your shot plan.
3) I will add animation to any elements or characters needed for the short movie.
We will be colleborating this on cloud in the engine, hence should not be a problem at all in terms of communication.
