Situation to simulate in Arena

COVED 19 forced airports around the world to operate differently and Kuwait airport is

preparing to open gradually and partially. There for the operations team decided to simulate the

expected scenarios and be prepared.

Kuwait airport will be receiving two types of customers at arrival: Single personals, traveling

families (4 members per arrival, maximum). The interarrival-time distribution for both type of

customers combined is EXPO (2.0) hours; and the first arrival is at time 0.

All type of customers will go to the Health Clearance process to be checked by documents Office

(Which takes EXPO (15) minutes), to decide if the passengers have done the official virus test by

the Ministry of health. It is expected that 95% of passengers will be having the official document

– So they can proceed to the X-ray station, and 5% of passengers will not have the proper

documents; so they will be asked to leave the airport as per as the regulations.

Passengers who have all needed official documents will continue to the X-Ray check point, where

the process will take Triangular (4, 5,6) minutes of delay time. The X-Ray station is having 3 X-Ray

machines and all resources are seizing only 1 passenger due to the social distancing.

Passengers then continue to the Boarding Pass Process, where 2 desks operating with delay time

of EXPO(30) minutes- and all resources are seizing only 1 passenger due to the social distancingthen will go to their flight gate waiting for their flight. 80% of the passengers will pass through

economic gate, and the rest through VIP fast track, then leaving to the airplane.

1) Build your model (using the blocks learned in the Lab sessions) and set up the simulation for

duration of [920 minutes]

2)A. Collect necessary output statistics and explain necessary values.

In your opinion and based on the statistical data, is the resource utilization for each

resource optimal in relation to the amount that should not be exceeded. (Please mention

that amount) . Explain your answer
