We are looking for an editor/proofreader to correct and edit several books we publish every single month. We publish anywhere from 4-10 books per month. We already have experienced writers who, for the most part, do not make that much spelling mistakes but we also have them use a spell check software to ensure there are absolutely no mistakes. (To ensure you have read this job description, please write at the beginning of your job posting the keyword "Halloween").
With that being said, your job will primarily be to review and change our text with the intent to improve the flow and overall quality of the writing. As our editor, you will have the freedom to remove entire sentences or rewrite entire paragraphs. So, you will not only correct any obvious errors you come across, but also use your expertise and intuition to ensure the book makes sense, cut down on wordiness, and clarify any ambiguity.
Likewise, your job will also be to proofread and examine the final draft of our book documents after it has been edited — to ensure there are absolutely no errors. Also, as our proofreader will review for spelling errors, punctuation errors, typos or incorrect use of regional English (i.e., ensuring that you’re using American English or British English when necessary).
In summary, we are looking for the following skills for this Editor & Proofreading job position:
- Being able to rewrite sentences and paragraphs to make it flow better.
- Makes the text clearer and more understandable.
- Uses your specialized knowledge to clarify and improve the text.
- Go beyond “spellcheck” to catch errors our writers, our spell check software we already use, and our computer might miss.
- Ensures zero grammatical errors (after a document has already been edited).
- Improve wrong spelling, poor grammar structure, wrong punctuation, consistency, poor readability, incorrect word usage, poor sentence structure, tenses, etc.
After, you have completed the job. We will need you to send us two documents: One with Microsoft 'TRACK CHANGE' (Markups or red lines) to show you the work done, and a clean copy that you can use to work.
Also, the amount of books assigned to you will be determined by your skills and the amount of value you can bring to our team and company. We typically write non-fiction books in the health & fitness category. Our books are usually between 9,500 to 15,000 words long. Please do not bid if you are looking for a quick job; we are looking for someone serious who wants to grow with our company, long-term.
Also, please bid how much you think you would charge to complete this job on a per book amount basis.
Thank you, and I look forward to working with you.

Halloween I read your brief with interest. I am interested in long-term work and yes, I have proofread, edited, updated content, rephrased etc., in my previous projects. I charge $5 per page.
I was a staff analyst in the telecommunications industry. I routinely prepared user guides, proofread documents for peers and basically am familiar with most documentation.
