Our company is an international corporation in the segment of electronic and consumer products.
In the context of our internal Document Management System, a new Dialogue for the Document Publishing has been developed. This module has some deficiencies in respect to performance. While the underlying database (MS SQL 2005) is providing data quickly, the rendering time of the webpage takes too long and the user experience is not optimal.
The module itself has some complexity. The publishing is realized in four dialgogue phases. One of these four phases is our point of concern and needs improvement. As a first step we could identify 5 user interactions / screen rebuilds which shall be analyzed and improved. Furthermore, we would like to request 3 minor changes (icon location, tool-tip text, change in a check-box logic) in order to find out how quickly this can be done. Last not least the third element of the job is to describe the logic and technique of the explored system and the changes that are proposed and why these changes will improve the performance. This document must be in English.
The system is programmed in C# in the .NET Framework 3.5 also using the Ajax Control Toolkit.
Based on my experience, I would expect a good programmer to study the code and logic of the system for two days in order to understand it well enough. Then the actual work of tuning / building alternatives for sections of the code would start. The question about how well and how quickly the new potential partner understands and documents the system is as same as important for us than the tuning itself. The reason is that we want to be able to judge the competence for further jobs we have in the pipline in the field of this Document Management System. It will also be necessary that the potential partner signs a NDA.
