We are working with SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (SPS) and Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 (WSS). We use standart Document Libraries under WSS and SPS. As you know you can enable "Versioning" under the Document Library Settings in SharePoint. This Information is saved in the SPS Meta Base.
Now we can publish and create new Office Documents in the Document Libraries, like Word, Excel, and other Document Types. When Versioning in SPS and WSS is enabled, Version History is activated and check in and check out options can be used.
Now the Problem and the request:
we would like that the version number (which is managed by SPS and WSS) would be printed out with the document. So I can see which version of document I use.
So is there any customization be possible, that the "office documents" can read the version number from Sharepoint DB and automatically print the version number, when I print the document out !
More SharePoint Customizations will be needed, so you can be sure, for a long therm contract.
