Most of the buildings are designed and constructed on the basis of aesthetics which happens to ignore the basic principles of earthquake resistant structures. The major reasons for structural failure during earthquakes are irregularities. In multi-storey framed building, damages from earthquake generally initiates at locations of structural weaknesses present in the lateral load resisting frames. These weaknesses may be created by discontinuities in stiffness, strength or mass along the diaphragm. Due to this stresses are developed in buildings. Discontinuities in the diaphragm are due to openings, cut-outs, adjacent floors at different levels or change in the thickness of diaphragm. The openings in the diaphragm are provided due to the architectural purposes, staircases, lighting etc. In this work, openings in slabs are provided at various locations. The effects of location of openings in slabs were investigated. The seismic performance of multistory building with diaphragm discontinuity is determined by Pushover Analysis and Time History Analysis under different ground motion records, which have low, intermediate, and high-frequency content.
