Love to know that you like Limbo game. It's an awesome and mindblowing game.
The character controller that you specified on the project description are very convenient on a platformer game, especially like Limbo that accentuate the level design from the platform pattern. Some game developer including me, call it interaction. Just like what you mention, interaction is just like grabbing rope, hanging on the cliff or edge of the platform, or even pushing and pulling objects.
On implementing character controller, we need to adjust it to be suitable with the game design itself. How much value of the jumpforce is? Does we need that convenient physics? Or is it playable with the current designed level? And many other question, because it's determining our game playability and will affects the user experience.
