Writer with a good understanding of Russian politics required to write 3 posts per week for a well-established and respected English language blog about Russia.
Applicants must have excellent English writing skills, be able to write in a straightforward, engaging and informative style, and have a good eye for what makes an interesting story. (I cannot stress enough how important good English language skills are!)
A good understanding of Russian politics is also vital - particularly foreign policy, as this interests non-Russian readers. The writer's political views are not of major importance, although the blog is generally sceptical of Russia's current approach towards democracy, so someone who is overtly pro-Putin would probably not fit particularly well. A good knowledge of Russian-language politics blogs would be helpful, but is not vital.
Approximately 3 posts per week would be required, most covering an important topical news story - usually the exact choice of topic will be at the writer's discretion. On average, each post will be approximately 500 words, but this can vary from post to post.
All applicants will need to provide a recent sample of writing in English (ideally about Russian politics or current affairs).
There is a small amount of money available for this post (around $5 per post initially) but as the site's income inreases, as will the writers'. Because relatively money is availabe, this project will probably best suit those who have studied or are studying journalism and/or English language and are looking for an interesting blogging opportunity in which they can gain experience of writing for blogs and expose their work to other journalists and publishers.
