Australian Rules Football statistic and other analysis to determine potential winning team.

Task

1) pull down data from the website [url removed, login to view]

2) collate this data into a database

3) Database specifications and requirements:

a. compare the teams playing based on a number of criteria

4) Fields within the database: Criteria:

a. each player within a team needs to have a record on core GAME STATS:

i. number of kicks

ii. number of handballs

iii. number of marks

iv. number of tackles

v. number of goals

vi. number of points

vii. current injuries/last injury period

viii. see appendix 1

b. weather conditions

i. table needs to show either wet weather or fine

c. time of game

i. night game

ii. day game

d. Temperature

i. Need to know the forecast temperature for the next game and use that as a parameter in determining the % score for the various fields

5) the database should then run a comparative “master table” that shows the averages of each team subject to the various conditions (weather, time of day)

6) the system need to run on Thursdays at 1200 EST Australia

7) Weekly processing steps:

a. Determine which two teams are playing

b. Select one team at a time

c. Go through the proposed teams and list which players will be playing

d. Select the forecast weather from [url removed, login to view]

e. Select the temperature from [url removed, login to view]

f. Select what time of day

g. Select if the game is at the “home ground” or “away”

h. Refine player average of CORE GAME STATS to provide an outline against the specific game conditions

i. Provide a player percentage for each of the CORE GAME STATS example:

Taylor Walker from ADELAIDE CROWS has an average number of 10 handballs.

In night games its 12

In day games its 9

In wet weather its 14

In dry weather its 9

In home games its 13

In away games its 10

THUS if the game was a home game, night, and raining he would have an average of (12+12+14= 39/3= 13) 13; verses his average of 10; thus he is a “+30%”

This needs to be done for each player and each core GAME STAT driver (marks kicks tackles etc)

8) Each week the respective team line-ups need to be analysed (as only 22 are picked) and ONLY the number f players that are picked are to be used

9) A total number of AVERAGE statistics (for all GAME STATS listed above) for all 22 picked players is to be calculated

10) A table also has to be developed to record and compare score lines

a. average points for and against

b. points for and against specific to the weekly competitor

c. points for and against for

i. home games

ii. away games

iii. night games

iv. day games

v. wet games

vi. dry games

vii. last average points for the past three games

d. look at the location of the venue for the game and outline the wether

e. The system needs to forecast what the score line will be based on 8 i-vi above (all weather statistics and forecasts can be collected from [url removed, login to view] and [url removed, login to view]

i. >> specify the regions

The system needs to be able to provide an email list everyday that provides an outlined of which team will win in each game based on the above criteria.

Crows v’s Brisbane

Crows win %: 88%

Brisbane win %: 68%

Data Mining

• The system needs to be developed so that it can go back through time and test the criteria and the results

AFL football

• Develop a comparative database of information which enables the identification of a select sports team subject to historic data and weekly data changes

• Overview of required outcome:

> A list is to be sent every FRIDAY @ 0900 EST Australia that provide a win % for various sports team
