We have an old database in MS Access 97 containing data on customers of our business (names, addresses, purchases etc). We need to transfer this data to a new SQL Server 2008 database. Both the old and the new database have about 30-40 tables each.
The old and the new database are for the same purpose, but they have different structure. We cannot map the whole tables accross, instead the fields/columns of tables need to be individually mapped accross.
From this project we want to get an automatic conversion program:
1) we would help you map the fields/columns between the two databases,
2) you would create either a SQL Server Procedure, or a SQL Server Script, or a VBA macro in MS Access,
3) we would run this processor program,
4) you would manually fix any irregularities in the data to complete the data transfer.
All data must be transferred, no data can be left behind. Therefore, no matter how good your data transfer program is, you may have to fix manually any anomalies in data.
To get this project, you need to either show that you have done something very similar before, or that you have excellent knowledge of both MS Access and SQL Server.
Please describe in PM how you would accomplish this task: would you use VBA, SP or Script. Convince me that you got a good approach and you got this project.
This project must be completed by Friday 4 November.
