My main Excel workbook refuses to load correctly. The moment I try to open it, Excel throws the warning: “Excel cannot open the file because the file format or file extension is not valid.” If I continue, the file does open, yet every sheet is visibly corrupted—numbers, formulas and formatting are all unreadable. The goal is simple: restore this file so it opens in modern Microsoft 365 without errors and displays its original data, formulas, charts and pivots intact. You may rely on any recovery approach—built-in repair, VBA, third-party tools, hex or binary editing, even temporary conversion through LibreOffice—as long as the outcome meets the criteria below. Acceptance criteria • A clean .xlsx that opens with zero error prompts • Original sheet structure, formulas and data preserved as fully as possible • A short report noting anything that could not be salvaged Send your estimated turnaround time and any clarifying questions, and we can get started right away.

I can investigate the corrupted Excel workbook and work toward restoring a clean XLSX that opens normally in Microsoft 365 without repair warnings. I would first inspect the workbook structure and ZIP/XML components to identify whether the damage affects specific sheets, formulas, styles, shared strings, charts or pivot data. Where possible, I can combine Excel repair, LibreOffice conversion, XML reconstruction and targeted data recovery instead of simply resaving the damaged file. The goal is to preserve the original sheet structure, formulas, values, charts and pivots as fully as the source allows. I will test the recovered workbook in a modern Excel environment and provide a short report listing anything that could not be salvaged. Please upload the corrupted XLSX so I can assess the damage and confirm the recovery approach.

Hi, I can inspect a copy of the damaged workbook, identify whether the file structure or extension is wrong, and recover the readable sheets, formulas and objects where possible. I will preserve the original and document anything that cannot be restored. The ₹1,500 estimate is for one workbook over 2 days, subject to checking the file first; full recovery cannot be promised before that check. Please send the damaged file and tell me its original format, approximate size and whether a recent backup or version history exists.

I can approach your corrupted Excel workbook systematically, focusing first on preserving as much original data, formulas, structure, charts, and pivot information as technically recoverable before making any repairs. Thank you for considering my proposal. I have gone through the requirements in detail. I’ll diagnose the workbook structure and corruption, then use the most appropriate recovery method—Excel Open & Repair, XML/package-level recovery, formula and relationship reconstruction, LibreOffice conversion, or other suitable techniques where necessary. After recovery, I’ll validate the resulting .xlsx in Microsoft 365 to ensure it opens without error prompts and that the recovered sheets, formulas, formatting, charts, and pivots are functioning correctly. I’ll also compare recovered content against the available evidence and provide a short report clearly identifying anything that could not be restored. For a typical workbook, I can target a 1–2 day turnaround, subject to the extent of corruption. I have uploaded samples similar to this project completed by me earlier in my profile. With 10+ years of experience, and as a Chartered Accountant (ICAI) and CPA, I bring strong Excel, data recovery, financial modelling, formula, and quality-control expertise. Thank you for considering my proposal. Please share the corrupted workbook, and I can assess its recoverability and confirm the approach and turnaround time.

That exact message, file format or file extension is not valid, tells me more than you might expect, so let me start with the diagnosis rather than the tools. An .xlsx is a zip archive of XML parts. Excel throws that particular error when the zip container itself is damaged, not the data inside it. Two causes account for nearly all cases. Either the save was cut short, typically to a network share, a USB stick or a syncing folder, so the archive's central directory at the end of the file never got written. Or the file isn't really an .xlsx at all.. an old .xls or an HTML export that was renamed, which Excel opens with everything scrambled exactly as you're describing. The first check takes seconds. If the first two bytes are PK it's a zip and I can list what parts survived. Sheets that were written before the cut are usually intact, formulas included, because they sit early in the archive. Charts and pivot caches are stored later, so they're the parts most at risk, and I'll tell you straight if they didn't make it rather than quietly rebuilding them by hand. You'll get a clean .xlsx that opens in 365 with no prompt, and a one page report listing every sheet as fully recovered, partially recovered or lost, with what was in the gap. Two questions.. how was it last saved, local drive, network share or OneDrive, and roughly how big is the file? Ronak
