Hi,
I'm a BI/DWH expert from Bulgaria (still in EU) with 7+ years of experience in the field.
The main components you need consider when looking for a BI solution are:
1. The data storage:
a. RDBMS - Plenty of options here: PostgreSQL, MySQL and many paid ones (SQL Server, Oracle, etc)
b. Big Data (HDFS, Cassandra, etc...) - only if the data expected is more than 1TB!!!
2. The ETL tool
a. Free - Pentaho Kettle, Talend and many others (popular and not so popular)
b. Paid - SSIS, Informatica PowerCenter
3. The BI server - this component is misleading, cause there two sub-components here, which sometimes can't be separated from each other.
Tableau, QlikView, MicroStrategy and all major players tend to combine/market them as "a single solution"
3.1. The ROLAP/MOLAP/HOLAP server - This is where the data get persisted/optimized for fast querying
a. Free - Mondrian, Jedox, Cubes ...
b. Paid (many) - SSAS, Cognos, icCube...
3.2. The visualization part or a.k.a. dashboards - this is both the easiest and the hardest choice:
a. Many JavaScript libraries - d3.js, [login to view URL], ... I'm sure there are many of them.
b. The "standard reporting" offered by the "BI Server" - Pentaho BI Server, BIRT, Jaspersoft, etc.
c. Some other app that offers dashboarding capabilities - Tableau, QlikView, PowerBI and too many others!!!
P.S. I'm a Pentaho BI specialist, you can guess my recommendation!
Best Regards,
Veselin Zh.
