Mission Profile characterizing the load of an electric motor. Basically a torque and rpm graph over time. System is defined by student for small robotics applications. We can lend an existing system to the student to collect data on.
Important numbers are size, weight, min ratio, max ratio, loss vs ratio vs rpm, max torque, max rpm, max power.
Market research and conceptualization of a CVT, be it Belt/Chain driven or hydraulic etc. Must have at least 2 concepts. No CAD at this point. Will be presented to engineering team for review before design begins.
Mechanical Design and Fabrication of the CVT. Solidworks preferred, but any sufficiently proficient CAD software is acceptable. Simulation to determine critical parameters as indicated above under tech requirements.
Coupling of the CVT to an Electric Motor and an electric load, and collecting data on the performance of the CVT. Will involve development of a closed loop system to vary the ratio of the CVT in response to the motor load and rpm.
