I need a circuit that will take npn and pnp sensors and deliver a 24 vdc output regardless of sensor type. The circuit must use a minimum of components and all IC's need to be dips. (not surface mount) I will need to insert up to 48 of these circuits on a pc board, so multiple circuits per IC is preferable. SIP resistor and capacitor packages are also preferred.
Currently I am using a pull up resister to perform this function, however it reverses the signal polarity of the sourcing sensor, but not the sinking sensor. I need a circuit that works for both without jumpers. It need to automatically detect which type of sensor and adjust accordingly. Allen Bradley has a similar circuit in some of their devices. I believe they use an opto coupler to achieve this.
